Jewelry Organizer

Do you have a good way to organize your jewelry?
I don't.
Well, I didn't until I finished this project, anyway.
Every time I needed an accessory, I had to have at least 5-10 minutes to spare in order to untangle chains, dangling earrings and the like. I needed a solution. And this cutlery tray proved to be the perfect fix.

This was just a simple expandable bamboo cutlery tray.

Along with some coordinating scrapbook paper, I picked these up at the craft store to serve as pegs on which to hang necklaces and bracelets. I painted the pegs white before hot gluing the gems to the front.

I hot glued the expandable sections on the backside to keep them open and in place. As you can tell by the photo, this job required several coats of paint. After the painting was done, I Mod Podged scrapbook paper to the sections and sprayed sealer over the whole thing. I attached a couple of sawtooth picture hangers to the back with the tiniest of nails and hot glued the pegs to the front.

Ta da!
Your very own custom jewelry organizer.

It holds everything perfectly and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I put a little hanging wire at the top of both of the outside sections for dangling earrings.

And that's it!
I am really happy to finally have my jewelry organized and I think it makes for a nice display.
What do you think?

Jen, I LOVE this! I was just thinking I wanted to do some research and make a jewelry display. My earrings always end up broken, and necklaces tangled. Awesome!

What are those gem things!? You glued them on knobs? I need some knobs for my dresser but I can only find ugly ones.

The gems were just brads that I picked up at the craft store. I used a wire cutter to snip the prongs off of the backs and used a dab of hot glue to attach them to the little wooden knobs. I don't know that these would be big enough for a dresser drawer, but they worked for this project just fine!

Super cute idea! I'm going to have to try this. I have a cutlery drawer in my vanity drawer, but it is getting so messy. Being able to hang the jewelry would be really cute. Do you have this hanging on the wall, or just standing?

In the photo, it's standing because of lighting issues. But, it's now hanging on the wall. I think it makes for a nice display either way. :)

Hi Jen,
I stumbled across your blog and I adore this idea of a jewlery organizer. I am blessed to have a hubby who made me a "jewlery box" out of a special, vintage tool box that he painted and upcycled to make an awesome Christmas gift for moi.
I think I will add this idea to my list of Christmas gift ideas for 2010. Keep on creating! :)
